Dr. Vwaere Diaso, the medical professional tragically killed in a fatal elevator incident at General Hospital, Lagos Island, has been laid to rest.
As previously reported by TheCable, the unfortunate incident unfolded when an elevator plummeted from the 10th floor of the hospital, resulting in the untimely passing of Dr. Diaso. She was in the elevator en route to the ground floor to collect a delivery from a dispatch rider when the tragic accident took place.
Orire Agbaje, a fourth-year Economics student at the University of Ibadan (UI), has been designated by President Bola Tinubu to serve as a member of the presidential committee dedicated to fiscal policy and tax reform. Sources reveal that Agbaje holds the positions of President at both The Tax Club, University of Ibadan, and the Nigerian Universities Tax Club.
On her LinkedIn profile, Agbaje characterizes herself as “assertive and hardworking.” She highlights her ongoing studies in Economics, specializing in International and Monetary Economics, as well as her involvement in Accounting (ICAN) and her growing grasp of Corporate Finance and Taxation. Beyond her academic pursuits, she expresses a passion for sports and volunteering.
Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, formerly the Minister of Economy and Finance, has been designated as Niger’s new Prime Minister by the country’s military junta. The announcement was made on national television by a spokesperson for the coup leaders late on Monday, occurring two weeks after the military assumed control of the nation.
Lamine Zeine, the newly appointed Prime Minister, previously held the role of Minister of Economy and Finance during Mamadou Tandja’s presidency until 2010. He has more recently been noted as an economist at the African Development Bank in Chad according to local Nigerien media.
The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) led by President Bola Tinubu has enacted fresh sanctions against the backdrop of the coup in Niger Republic. Previously, the regional bloc had given the Niger junta a seven-day ultimatum to reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum or face sanctions, even including potential military intervention.
The coup leaders, however, remained defiant in the face of ECOWAS’ stance and vowed to resist foreign intervention on their soil. They severed ties with Nigeria, Togo, France, and the US, and also closed the Nigerien airspace indefinitely.
5. The founder of Fountain of Life Church, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, has sadly passed away. The church officially confirmed his demise through a statement released on Tuesday.
The revered cleric, who held a prominent position in the religious community, breathed his last on Monday in the United States of America. The Fountain of Life Church shared the news of his passing with deep reverence and acceptance of God’s will.
6. Popular singer Portable has raised alarm over an alleged attack on himself and his crew in the bustling district of Lekki in Lagos. In a video that quickly went viral, the artist known for his hit track ‘Zazoo Zeh’ could be seen visibly frustrated inside a vehicle alongside his entourage.
Portable revealed that the incident occurred while he was shopping for clothing for a newly signed artist under his label. He narrated the incident with a mix of Yoruba and pidgin English, expressing his anger and disappointment.

The Government of Benue State, in collaboration with the All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central Zone, has released the names of esteemed individuals who will constitute the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for the forthcoming “Home Coming, Interdenominational Service, and Grand Reception” event, organized in honor of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Dr. George Akume fnim, CON.
The Central Planning Committee, chaired by Arc. Sunny Echono, comprises notable personalities who are entrusted with the responsibility of organizing and coordinating this significant occasion. The event will celebrate the outstanding contributions of Senator Dr. George Akume to governance and public service.
8. Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has given his approval for the appointment of Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Faskari as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Faskari, who previously served as Deputy Governor of Katsina State from 2011 to 2015, will be taking over the SSG position, replacing Arch Ahmed Musa Dangiwa. The latter was recently nominated as a Minister by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
9. The Nigerian Senate faced a significant setback as they failed to confirm the appointment of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State. Out of the 48 ministerial nominees presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, an overwhelming majority of 45 nominees were successfully confirmed.
Following the confirmation of the 45 nominees, Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio disclosed that Nasir El-Rufai and two other nominees did not receive clearance in the security checks. As a result, their appointments were not approved.
10. The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
According to Patrick Areghan, the Head of Nigeria’s Office (HNO) of WAEC, out of a total of 1,613,733 candidates who took the examination, the results of 262,803 candidates are being withheld due to reported cases of examination malpractice.
