Napoli social media executive steps down over Osimhen TikTok controversy

Alessio Fortino, the social media executive for Napoli, has officially resigned from his position within the Italian club.

This decision comes in the aftermath of a controversy sparked by videos shared on Napoli’s TikTok account that seemed to ridicule their striker, Victor Osimhen. The situation escalated to the point where Osimhen’s agent threatened to pursue legal action.

The initial video depicted the 24-year-old player making a penalty appeal, accompanied by sped-up audio and a caption stating ‘Gimme penalty please,’ followed by footage of him missing the spot-kick wide of the post.

In a subsequent video from the club’s account, which was later removed but had circulated online, Osimhen was unfavorably compared to a ‘coconut,’ a term widely recognized as a racial slur.

Following the fallout from this incident, Napoli’s social media executive has chosen to resign from the club. He confirmed this development through a post on his personal Instagram account.

Fortino wrote: “Today, after 805 days, my professional adventure with SSC Naples ends. For many this job would be comparable to a dream, for me it was simple daily reality: a reality built on commitment and fueled by the constant desire to learn and play.

“I cannot help but express my deepest gratitude to all the colleagues, collaborators, partners and supporters I’ve met along this long journey for making this experience so special.

“Leaving the company with a baggage of great memories and an excitement for the new adventures that lie ahead. Thanks again for everything and see you soon! Alessio.”
