The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a two-year-old girl who was trafficked from Abuja to Aba, Abia State.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Friday, the agency revealed that the child, renamed Chiamaka Favor (not her real name), was trafficked in February 2025 and recovered on May 8, 2025, by NAPTIP officials in Abia.

According to the statement, the suspected trafficker was apprehended by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and handed over to NAPTIP. The suspect is alleged to have worked with three trafficking syndicates operating out of Abuja and reportedly sold the child to a buyer for ₦100,000.

“Investigations are currently ongoing,” NAPTIP confirmed.

The agency also made a public appeal for assistance in tracing the child’s biological parents or relatives, urging anyone with useful information to urgently contact its offices.

This rescue comes weeks after NAPTIP, in partnership with the Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, rescued eight children who were deceitfully taken from their homes and trafficked to Aba, Onitsha, and parts of Imo State.
