NARD: Nigerian resident doctors declare indefinite strike
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared an indefinite strike following the expiration of its two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government. The decision was announced in a brief statement released on Tuesday evening, as reported by Channels Television.
The resident doctors’ demands revolve around various issues, including the immediate payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Funds (MRTF). Additionally, they are seeking the prompt release of the circular on one-for-one replacement and the payment of skipping arrears, among other concerns.
The implementation of all these demands was the subject of the ultimatum issued by NARD to the Federal Government on July 5. However, with the government’s failure to meet their demands within the given time frame, the association decided to take industrial action.
The indefinite strike by resident doctors poses significant challenges to the nation’s healthcare system, as these medical practitioners play a crucial role in providing essential medical services across various healthcare facilities.
