The Member Representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ottah Agbo, has raised alarm on the attack on his hometown, Ijigban, in Ado local government area of Benue state.
According to the former Special Adviser to Bayelsa state governor, his district, Ijigban, precisely Ndi-Obasi in Ekile ward is currently under a ‘coordinated attack by suspected Fulani marauders’ since Saturday 29 May.
He alleged that properties worth millions of naira were burnt.
He said, “Since the wee hours of today, I have been in touch with some of the village heads of Ekile , Ward head of Ekile, Izzi critical stakeholders, the District Head of Ijigban, the Councillors from the Ari Zone, the Ado Council Chairman and the Government of Benue State!.
Agbo said he is “personally in Ijigban monitoring situations and helping to manage the crisis so that it doesn’t escalate in my own little way.”
He explained that “there are no Fulani Herdsmen living in Ijigban District. My preliminary investigations show that the attack may have been carried out by Fulani Marauders hired to avenge the killing of a Fulani man (Mohammed Isah) in Atologa, Ekile Ward, which IPOB had claimed responsibility!”
The lawmaker called for calm pointing that “the Government of Benue State has this morning, deployed security in Ndi-Obasi and environs!”
