In Group A3 of the Nations League, Germany drew 1-1 with Hungary, with Hansi Flick’s side putting in a lacklustre performance at the Puskas Arena in the Saturday fixture.
The first half got off to a fast start, with Hungary taking the lead through Zsolt Nagy in the sixth minute, only for Germany to equalise minutes later through Jonas Hofmann. In the second half, Germany was sluggish and inefficient, but Hofmann had a golden opportunity to put the team ahead when he fluffed his lines while one-on-one with Peter Gulasci.
The draw keeps Germany in third place in their Nations League group, extending Flick’s unbeaten run as coach to 12 games, while Hungary in second, just a point behind Roberto Mancini’s young Italian side at the top.
With their wealth of attacking options, Germany remains a work in progress, despite the fact that Flick has not lost a single game in charge and they have scored in every game. Yet, this was their fourth consecutive 1-1 draw in all competitions. They will have to improve in the coming games.
Marco Rossi’s side will next meet England at Wembley on Tuesday night, while Germany will face Italy the same evening.
