Max Air has officially confirmed a serious incident involving one of its aircraft at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday night. The aircraft, registered 5N-MBD, was carrying 53 passengers when it suffered a tyre burst during landing.
Fortunately, all 53 passengers and crew disembarked unharmed. The incident occurred around 10:57 p.m. as the aircraft, arriving from Lagos, lost its nose landing gear tyre while attempting to land.
In a statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, the airline praised its crew for managing the situation professionally, ensuring the safe evacuation of all on board.
“We wish to inform the public that one of our aircraft experienced an incident upon landing in Kano yesterday,” the statement said.
The airline further announced that the runway in Kano was temporarily closed for inspection, which may cause delays in flight operations on Wednesday.
“There were no injuries, and the aircraft has since been removed from the runway as of 04:28,” the statement confirmed.
Max Air also assured passengers that its engineering team handled the situation with excellence and that flight schedules would be updated.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered an immediate, thorough inspection of the airport runway.
Efforts to contact officials from the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) were unsuccessful, as calls and texts went unanswered.
Earlier, in December 2024, a Max Air aircraft had made an emergency landing after a fire broke out, but all passengers, including the Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, escaped unscathed.
