Ndigbo should join APC now before it’s too late – Deputy Speaker Kalu

Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has called upon the people of the South East region to consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) and shift away from regional politics. He emphasized the need for the South East to align with the majority party instead of continuing to operate from a minority position.

Kalu’s remarks came during an interview on Flo 94.9 FM Umuahia, where he shared his personal commitment to the APC. He recounted his dedication during the presidential polls, having taken bullets for President Bola Tinubu in the South East. Kalu encouraged politicians from the South East who are affiliated with other parties such as the PDP, APGA, and LP to unite with the APC, emphasizing the ample opportunities within the ruling party.

One of Kalu’s key concerns was that the South East states are currently controlled by four different political parties, resulting in a dilution of their voices when making demands at the national level. He firmly believed that the South East should shift its focus from regional politicking to national politics, emphasizing that being part of the party in control of the federal purse would enable better opportunities for lobbying.

Kalu stated, “APC will be stronger now in Abia and in the South East than before. This is the time for those sitting on the fence to hop in before it becomes late. Because we are bringing the type of leadership that will recognize your stake. It is better for you to be in a party that has control of the federal purse because that way, we can lobby better. When we go with the splinter group, our voices are low. We must leave regional politicking and go national politicking. If we do more for APC, APC will do more for Ndigbo.”

Despite belonging to different political parties, Kalu expressed his commitment to supporting the development of Abia State and the South East, indicating his willingness to back initiatives that benefit the region and the nation as a whole. He also lamented the relatively low number of votes the APC received in the South East during the last presidential election and urged the people of the region to avoid repeating the same political miscalculations in upcoming elections.
