The National Examinations Council (NECO) has blacklisted 14 examination centres for involvement in malpractice across nine subjects.
These centres are located in two South-Western states: 10 in Ogun and 4 in Oyo.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced this on Friday during a media briefing at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, where he also revealed the release of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (External) results.
Wushishi stated that the names of the blacklisted centres and supervisors will be forwarded to other examination bodies for further sanctions.
The registrar also shared that 6,169 candidates were caught for various forms of malpractice, a decrease of 27.7% compared to 8,518 in 2023.
Additionally, seven supervisors from Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, and aiding malpractice.
“The Federal Ministry of Education has directed that the names of these centres and supervisors be shared with other exam bodies, including JAMB and WAEC,” Wushishi said.
Regarding registration, 86,067 candidates, comprising 44,988 males and 41,079 females, registered for the exam. Of this number, 84,799 candidates sat for it, including 44,277 males and 40,522 females.
The results showed that 75.62% (62,929) of candidates secured a credit or higher in English Language, while 93.94% (77,988) obtained five credits or above in Mathematics. Additionally, 63.35% (57,114) achieved five credits, including English and Mathematics, while 83.39% (70,711) earned five credits regardless of those two subjects.
