Despite Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup billed for November in Qatar, it’ll be a busy ‘ember’ month for the Super Eagles as they will battle arch-rivals Cameroon Indomitable Lions and Portugal in two different matches, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the tune-up matches for November 17 against Portugal and October for the game against Cameroon.
According to our source at the NFF: ”That of Portugal for November 17 has been sealed by the NFF and Portuguese FA as it’s the last FIFA window for International friendlies for the year 2022.
“Portugal is expected to use the Eagles tune-up game to prepare its team ahead of its group game against Ghana Black Stars going to the Mundial in Qatar.
“The one against Cameroon is an Invitation Tournament which is billed for October, though talks are still on as regards the date.”
Meanwhile, this is cheering news for Coach Jose Peseiro who needs both Grade A matches to prepare his Super Eagles for the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
According to new dates from CAF owing to the postponement of the continent’s biggest football showpiece from June/July of 2023 to January/Feb, implying Nigeria host the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau in March.
The 1st and 2nd leg fixtures between both countries will be played between the 20th and 28th of the third month of 2024.
