NFF pays tribute to Samuel Okwaraji
The Nigeria football federation (NFF) has paid tribute to a late professional footballer, Samuel Okwaraji who slumped and died in a 1990 World Cup qualifier game.
The former Nigerian Footballer died as a result of congestive heart failure in the 77th minute of a World Cup Qualification Match against Angola at the Lagos National Stadium in Surelere, on the 12th of August, 1989.
He was playing with the Belgian side K. Berchem Sport at the time of his death. He died at the age of 25.
NFF wrote on their official verified Twitter handle; “It’s 12th August again, and we remember the Patriotic Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji who died on this day in 1989. Forever in our hearts”
Okwaraji was born on May 19, 1964.
Apart from being a professional footballer, who played for Nigeria, Okwaraji was also a qualified lawyer who had a Master’s Degree in international law from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome.
