The Nigeria Football Federation has issued a three-day ultimatum to Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, to agree to a reduced salary and extend his contract.
The NFF, acting through its technical committee, has communicated that if the Portuguese coach does not make a decision within this three-day window, he will be stepping down from his position.
Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa, the chairman of the technical committee, implied that if Peseiro does not respond positively, the NFF will appoint an interim coach to oversee the Super Eagles’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe next month. After that, they will initiate the search for a permanent head coach.
Although Jose Peseiro’s previous contract ended last month, he has expressed his intention to guide the Super Eagles to the 2023 AFCON finals in Cote d’Ivoire.
However, the 63-year-old former coach of Venezuela and Saudi Arabia has not shown willingness to agree to a reduction in his $70,000 salary.
Peseiro assumed the role of leading the Super Eagles in May 2022.
