Ngoumou backs Lookman for African Player of the Year

Former Cameroonian junior international François Ngoumou has backed Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman as a strong contender for the African Player of the Year Award.

The Nigerian international enjoyed a stellar season with Atalanta in Serie A and delivered impressive performances for the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, making him a favourite for the prestigious prize.

Speaking to Foot Africa, Ngoumou highlighted Lookman’s remarkable consistency, noting that his sustained form gives him an edge over other competitors for the award.

“He was brilliant at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.

“His performances with Atalanta were very interesting. He was able to assert himself and prove decisive in the Europa League.

“Guirassy is all fired up after these two competitions. Over the last twelve months, I think Lookman has been more consistent. He has shone at the highest level.”
