Nicki Minaj hails Trump for naming Nigeria a ‘Country of particular concern’ over Christian killings
American rap superstar Nicki Minaj has praised U.S. President Donald J. Trump for designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged widespread persecution of Christians.
The award-winning rapper reacted on Saturday through a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing gratitude for the freedom of worship enjoyed in her home country and empathy for those suffering religious violence elsewhere.
“Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practising their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other,” she wrote.
Her comments followed Trump’s declaration on Truth Social on Friday, where he alleged that Christianity was facing an “existential threat” in Nigeria, accusing radical Islamist groups of carrying out widespread killings of Christians.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘country of particular concern.’ The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening. We will stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world,” Trump stated.
The U.S. president’s post came just hours after he warned that America might take military action against Nigeria if the killings continued, describing any potential strike as “fast, vicious, and sweet.”
In a follow-up message, Minaj urged global attention to the plight of persecuted Christians and other victims of religious violence across the world.
“Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror, and it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to the President and his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer,” she added.
