The 2023 Premier League Summer Series kicked off with a pre-season classic as Chelsea and Brighton put on a spectacular show at Lincoln Financial Field. In an action-packed encounter, Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues emerged victorious with a thrilling 4-3 win over the Seagulls.
Fresh from their commanding 5-0 victory against Wrexham, Chelsea continued their impressive pre-season form. Summer signing Nicolas Jackson stole the limelight, showcasing his talent by scoring his first goal for the club and providing two crucial assists that played a vital role in the victory.
Fellow newcomer Christopher Nkunku was also on target for the second pre-season match in a row, displaying his goal-scoring prowess. Mykhailo Mudryk and Conor Gallagher added to Chelsea’s goal tally, demonstrating the West Londoners’ attacking prowess.
Brighton, however, showed their fighting spirit, with Danny Welbeck, Deniz Undav, and Joao Pedro finding the back of the net to keep the game tightly contested. Despite their efforts, it was a challenging outing for the Seagulls’ Dutch defender, Jan Paul van Hecke, who received a red card in the 60th minute.
As both teams continue their pre-season preparations, Brighton will face Brentford next in the Summer Series on Wednesday, aiming to bounce back from their narrow defeat. Meanwhile, Chelsea will lock horns with Newcastle on the same day.
