Niger: 18 burnt to death along Minna-Bida road

Eighteen passengers in a 18- seater bus have been burnt beyond recognition in a early morning crash in Gidan Kwano along Minna-Bida in Bosso local government area of Niger State.

The bus was said to have been coming from Lagos with the destination yet to be known but authorities said it may be on its way to either Kano or Sokoto state.

The Nation gathered the accident, which occured around 3 am on Sunday morning, occurred when the bus ran into a 10- tyre truck parked on the road before becoming engulfed with fire.
Because most people were still asleep, it was learnt help didn’t come until 5 am when people started gathering.
By then, the passengers and the bus had been burnt beyond recognition.
The Nation gathered two victims were rescued and taken to the IBB hospital but one of them had died while the second who sustained serious burns is in critical condition.
Niger Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Wasiu, confirmed the incident saying the victims were given a mass burial close to the scene of the accident.
He said the plate number of the bus was also burnt beyond recognition.
