Nigeria 3 Mozambique 2: Super Eagles beat Mozambique in friendly match
In an exciting friendly match held at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira, Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured victory over Mozambique with a final score of 3-2 on Monday.
The action began with Geny Catamo of Mozambique scoring in the sixth minute, assisted by Witi, taking an early lead in the game. However, the Super Eagles retaliated swiftly, as Terem Moffi netted an equalizer in the 18th minute.
Mozambique’s goalkeeper, Ernan Siluane, showcased impressive skills by making a fantastic save to deny Frank Onyeka’s attempt in the 20th minute. Onyeka persistently attacked, forcing Siluane into another save a minute later. Nonetheless, Siluane couldn’t thwart Brentford midfielder Onyeka from giving Nigeria the lead just before the half-hour mark.
Mozambique faced a setback when one of their defenders fouled Joe Aribo in the 37th minute, resulting in a red card, leaving them with 10 players on the field. Seizing the opportunity, the Super Eagles were awarded a penalty, expertly converted by Moses Simon right before halftime, extending their lead to 3-1.
In the 55th minute, Mozambique managed to reduce the deficit with Faisal Bangal finding the back of the net. Despite their efforts, Mozambique couldn’t level the score.
The match saw substitute Umar Sadiq scoring twice, but both goals were ruled out for offside—first in the 20th minute from time and then again in the 86th minute.
Looking ahead, Jose Peseiro’s side will focus on their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe scheduled for next month. The victory for the Super Eagles adds to their momentum as they prepare for future challenges in international football.
