Nigeria, Algeria at ‘war’ over Reading midfielder, Michael Olise

Algeria are reportedly planning to convince Reading midfielder Michael Olise to shun Nigeria and commit his international future to the North African country.

The 19-year-old is eligible to play for the Super Eagles as well as the Desert Foxes at the senior level as she is born to an Algerian mother and a Nigerian father.

Having already featured for the French national U-18 team, the teenage sensation was said to have agreed to pledge his allegiance for his fatherland but that will not happen without some level of competition from the reigning AFCON champions.

According to owngoal Nigeria, the youngster has already had a discussion with Gernot Rohr and this was why he has been named among the standby players in the list of invited players for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Liberia next month.

The Eagles coach however blamed his stand-by status on the player’s travel restrictions caused by the deadly coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the player has agreed to meet with The Fennecs representatives once the season wraps up next month as sources claim they are planning to sell their idea to the midfielder.

The player is said to be feeling indifferent about the contact from the North African country owing to the fact that he already gave his word to the Nigeria Football Federation and Rohr.
