Benue State has gotten another General in the Nigerian Army. Brig. Gen. Michael Onoja, son of Gen. Lawrence Onoja (rtd) was decorated today with his new rank following his promotion from the rank of colonel earlier in the year.
Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu who attended the event was given the privilege of decorating the new General, assisted by wife of the celebrant. The General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj. Gen. Faruk Yahaya who supervised the piping ceremony congratulated Brig. General Onoja and 4 other officers that were similarly decorated with their new ranks.
Speaking at the celebratory event, Engr Abounu congratulated them on their new ranks and charged them to see their positions as opportunity to put their training, experience and high competence to the service of the Nigerian Army and the nation.
He extolled the professionalism of the Nigerian Army and it’s impactful contributions to maintaining a stable and peaceful country.
Engr Abounu, who highlighted the role the Armed Forces, particularly the Army played in bringing to an end the prolonged attacks by insurgents and herdsmen on Benue State thanked the Armed Forces for being the stabilising force that has held the country together.
The event drew officers and men from all the army formations under the 1 Division, Nigerian Army, kaduna.
Brig. General Onoja, who holds a Master of Arts degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Philosophy degree in Security and Strategic Studies, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna degree is presently the Commander, 1 Military Intelligence Brigade, Kaduna.
