President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace in the northern regions affected by banditry and kidnapping, with a focus on allowing displaced farmers to return to their lands and boosting food production.
Speaking during his 2024 Anniversary Broadcast on the occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day on October 1, 2024, Tinubu expressed confidence that ongoing efforts would lead to increased food output and a reduction in food prices.
“We expect a significant rise in food production and a sharp decline in food costs. I promise you, we shall not falter in this endeavor,” the President stated.
He notes that the administration’s progress in combatting terror and banditry, emphasizing the goal to completely eradicate threats from Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping, and violent extremism.
“Our administration has outpaced previous efforts, eliminating terrorist and bandit leaders at an unprecedented rate,” Tinubu said, noting that over 300 commanders of Boko Haram and bandits had been neutralized by Nigerian troops in key regions within the past year.
He expressed optimism that this would help farmers return to their lands, further stabilizing food production in the country.
“We have restored peace to hundreds of northern communities, allowing thousands of people to return home. Our security forces are dedicated to completing this mission swiftly. As soon as peace is restored, farmers will return to their fields, leading to a leap in food production and a decrease in food prices. I assure you, we will not falter,” he concluded.
