Nigeria businessman Oscar Ibru dies at 67
Renowned industrialist and Chairman of the Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oscar Ibru**, has died at the age of 67 after a brief illness. His family confirmed the news on Thursday, throwing the Agbarha-Otor Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State into mourning.
Oscar Ibru was the first son of the late business mogul Olorogun Michael Ibru and hailed from Agbarha-Otor.
Tributes Pour In
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori** described the death as a monumental loss to the Urhobo nation and Nigeria. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor praised Ibru’s lifetime of service, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy, noting his significant contributions to commerce, hospitality, and social development through the Ibru Organisation.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Ibru family, the Urhobo nation, and all Nigerians on the passing of Olorogun Oscar Ibru,” Oborevwori said. “He distinguished himself in business and philanthropy, and his demise is a great loss to our entire state and country.”
Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, SAN, Otota of Olomu Kingdom, called the death an “irreparable loss,” recalling Ibru’s support during the kingdom’s leadership transition.
Joseph Umudjere, President General of the Agbarha-Otor Kingdom, described Ibru’s passing as a “big blow,” adding, “We never expected him to leave us at this trying time when we needed him most.”
Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, also expressed shock and offered condolences to the Ibru family and the Agbarha-Otor community.
Governor Oborevwori prayed for the repose of Ibru’s soul and urged the family to take comfort in his enduring legacy of love, generosity, and enterprise.
