D’Tigers are now just one win away from securing a spot in the 2025 AfroBasket finals after an emphatic 87-67 comeback victory over Uganda in their second Group B qualifier in Tripoli on Saturday.
The Nigerian team, fresh off a hard-fought 75-70 win against hosts Libya on Friday, overcame a halftime deficit to claim their second consecutive victory in the final qualifying window.
Uganda started strongly, winning the first two quarters 16-14 and 18-14 to take a 34-28 lead at halftime. However, D’Tigers roared back with a dominant second-half display, outscoring their opponents 27-25 in the third quarter before a stunning 32-8 blowout in the fourth sealed the win.
Caleb Agada was the standout performer, leading all scorers with 20 points, while also contributing seven assists and three steals. Ike Nwamu added 18 points, while Talib Zanna delivered a crucial double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The victory marks a major turnaround for D’Tigers, who had endured a difficult first phase in February, losing all three of their matches and putting their qualification hopes in jeopardy.
They will now take on group leaders Cape Verde on Sunday (today) in what promises to be a decisive showdown for a place in the AfroBasket finals in Angola this August.
