About $5billion is required to effectively implement the Nigerian National Broadband Plan (NNBP) 2020-2025, a committee set up by the Federal Government has said.

Chairman, Broadband Implementation Steering Committee, Ubale Maska, stated this in Abuja at the first stakeholders’ consultation with industry players on the implementation of the plan.

“The plan itself can be achieved at the cost of between $3.5billion and $5billion.

We have several options and none is defined yet; we hope to raise something from the government. But as you can see government has its hands full.

There are conflicting demands; we don’t know if that will happen. But the infrastructure funds that the Central Bank of Nigeria is floating is another source,” he said.

NNBP is designed to deliver data download speeds across Nigeria, a minimum of 25Mbps in urban areas, and 10Mbps in rural areas, with effective coverage available to at least 90% of the population by 2025.
