Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom Thursday expressed worry over the growing level at which the coronavirus pandemic was spreading in the country.
He likened the development to the sins committed against God by the people of Sodom and Gomorrah that prompted the Almighty God to visit His anger on Nigerians in particular and the world at large.
Governor Ortom urged Nigerians to return to God and confess their sins to cleanse the land for the people to continue to live in peace.
Addressing journalists at the Government House in Makurdi, Ortom said he and his family have declare 30 days of fasting and prayers for God to heal the land, and implored those who are capable of emulating him to do so too.
“I have decided to, at the personal level as governor and as Samuel Ortom, declare a 30-day prayer and fasting, and for those who are able to fast for a day or half a day or not fasting at all that Benue people should pray together.
“Truly, the world has failed God, just like the first destruction that God. Secondly, we hear about Sodom and Gomorrah. I think that the atrocities we have committed before God today are more than what happened when God destroyed the world and spared only Noah.
“What happened in Sodom and Gomorrah as we read in the Bible is not up to what we see happening in today’s world.”
