Nigeria’ll be buried if anything happens to Ortom – Wike reacts to attack on Benue Gov

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says the President Muhammedu Buhari-led federal government should be prepared for the worst if anything should happen to his Benue counterpart, Samuel Ortom.

Wike who was reacting to the attack on Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom’s convoy by suspected militia herdsmen on Saturday on his farm at Tyo-mu, along Makurdi-Gboko road, described the attack as an assassination attempt.

Though, Ortom’s security men were at handy to repel the the attack, Wike condemned the attack in it entirety, stressing that Nigeria will be history if anything should happen to Ortom.

“If you kill Ortom, then be prepared to bury Nigeria,” Mr. Wike said.

“If anything happens to Governor Ortom, the Federal Government will be held responsible and they should be prepared that there will be no more Nigeria.”

In the statement signed by his spokesman, Kelvin Ebiri, Wike who recalled the assassination plot against by former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Major General Jamil Sarham, and All Progressives Congress chieftains during the 2019 general election, described as disturbing the growing trend where the lives of incumbent governors are brazenly threatened. I

Both Ortom and Wike have been very vocal on the growing pace of insecurity in the country.

Recently, Governor Ortom was in a battle of words with his Bauchi counterpart, Bala Mohammed, over the later’s comment that Fulani herdsmen are at liberty to carry arms.

Though, the brawl was later settled by the leadership of their party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, at the instance of the Rivers State Governor, Wike, Ortom have refused to be silent on the rampaging herdsmen menace.
