In the ongoing battle against cross-border banditry, the Niger Armed Forces have successfully captured a notorious Nigerian bandit kingpin named Kachallah Mai Daji near the border town of Illela, Niger.

Renowned security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, highlighted Kachallah Mai Daji’s reign of terror spanning over a decade in northeastern Nigeria. Makama emphasized the bandit leader’s extensive criminal activities, which include numerous killings, village burnings, mass kidnappings, and extortion of levies from local communities.

The Illela region, particularly, bore the brunt of Kachallah Mai Daji’s atrocities, with villages like Tozai, Sabon Garin Darna, Darna Tsolawo, Tudun Gudali, Basanta, Ɗan Kadu, Takalmawa, Gidan Hamma, Ambarura, Gidan Bulutu, and several others in the vicinity falling victim to his terror tactics.

Reports indicate that Kachallah Mai Daji was apprehended by Nigerien forces while attempting to rustle livestock across the Nigeria-Niger border.

In a tragic development on Sunday, at least 11 individuals were reported dead, and five others sustained injuries after two vehicles detonated suspected bandit-planted landmines in Gamboru-Ngala and Dikwa local government areas of Borno State.
