Nigerian Govt invites controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi for questioning
The Nigerian Government has extended an invitation to the controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, for questioning regarding his statements concerning the activities of bandits in the country.
The invitation was confirmed by the Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a briefing with journalists at the State House in Abuja on Monday.
Minister Idris emphasized that Gumi, despite his status, is not exempt from the law, hence the decision to request his presence for questioning.
Ahmad Gumi had previously called on the Tinubu-led government to collaborate with him in negotiating with bandits. In his remarks, he urged Tinubu to avoid repeating what he labeled as the ‘mistake’ of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who declined to engage in dialogue with bandits.
Gumi stated that the financing of terrorism in Nigeria does not originate from Nigerians, but rather from the terrorists who engage in abductions for ransom.
