The Federal Controller of Works in Benue, Mr. Olumide Alabi, has announced that the Federal Government is rehabilitating nine highways across the state to improve transportation and ease movement.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, Alabi stated that there are over 30 highways in the state, with ongoing efforts to upgrade key routes.
He also highlighted the dualisation of the Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu road, which is currently in progress, and mentioned that contractors are actively working on the Otukpo/Ogobia/Ankpa and Oju/Adu/Okoko roads.
However, Alabi explained that some contractors are not currently on-site due to pending contract augmentation approvals from the Federal Government.
The roads awaiting contract augmentations include Yadev/Katsina-Ala road, Makurdi/Gboko road, Katsina-Ala/Takum road, Lessel/Awajir/Agberagba road, Ihugh/Koriya road, Makurdi/Naka/Adoka road, and Otukpo/Ogobia/Ankpa road.
“We are doing our best to ensure the roads are in optimal condition,” Alabi remarked. “Although there is no specific deadline within the year to complete these repairs, it is an ongoing process.
The roads tend to be very busy during the yuletide season, so we are making efforts to have contractors return to the sites and complete the repairs before then.”
