Nigerian musician Speed Darlington arrested in Owerri

Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington, has been arrested by the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.

The arrest was confirmed by his legal counsel, activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who revealed that Speed Darlington was detained in Owerri, the Imo State capital. According to Adeyanju’s post on his X handle on Wednesday, the musician was arrested while performing at a show in Owerri, shortly after returning to Nigeria earlier in the week.

Adeyanju wrote, “Our client, Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”

The reasons for the arrest remain unclear at the time of this report.

This follows a prior arrest where Darlington was detained over allegations of cyberstalking Nigerian music star Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy. He was initially arrested in Lagos, transferred to Abuja, and held by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in the Guzape area of Abuja.
