1. Manchester United have appointed Erik ten Hag as their new first-team manager.
Manchester United disclosed this in a statement via its website on Thursday morning.
2. A police report has indicted Peter Nwachukuw in the death of gospel music minister, Osinachi Nwachukwu.
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, who made this disclosure, assured the public that the security agency was making progress in the probe of Osinachi’s death.
3. Authorities of the Federal Capital Territory has sealed-off the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing located at Mabushi in Abuja.
The exercise, which is connected with its drive to recoup about N10billion owed the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, also affected the popular Murg plaza located just opposite the UTC Market, at Area 10, Garki, Merit House, and the Federal Character Commission, among others.
4. The Lagos State Government has reacted to the alleged sexual violence case involving students of Chrisland Schools which occurred in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A statement on Monday said all allegations are being investigated by the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
5. The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman, has defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Sulaiman, who is also the Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, made his defection known during a Ramadan breaking of fast (Iftar) dinner hosted by Governor Bala Mohammed, on Saturday night.
6. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that creation of state police would be a better option than community policing in fighting the growing insecurity in the country.
Obasanjo, who stated this, yesterday, when the leadership of the National Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen in Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said community police would curb the wave of insecurity in the country.
7. Following an early morning inferno at the Makurdi branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday, the management of the apex bank has asked anxious Nigerians not to panic as the minor fire outbreak was swiftly checked moments after it was detected.
According to the Spokesman of the CBN, Mr Osita Nwanisobi, the prompt response of the bank’s security and facility management units as well as support from the Benue State Fire Service helped to fight the fire and prevented any.
8. A female passenger waiting to board a Lagos-bound flight from the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja slumped and died on Thursday, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed.
The Authority said the lady was observed having difficulty in breathing at the boarding hall, but later passed on after efforts made to resuscitate her proved abortive.
9.The Federal Government, yesterday, criticised Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over his unbridled comments which it claimed was indirectly helping terrorists restrategise as well as endanger those in captivity. In fact, it accused him of divulging classified information.
National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Munguno, disclosed this after a meeting of the National Security Council at the Presidential Villa, yesterday.
Responding to a question on El-Rufai’s claim that intelligence was made available to the military early enough on hideout of bandits and planned attacks, but that they failed to act, the NSA said the governor’s comments could compromise the security situation as bandits could relocate to other destinations if they knew that their current hideout was known.
