Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things to know this Thursday Morning, September 7

1.The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abubakar Atiku on Wednesday suffered a major setback in his legal battle to unseat Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s elected President.

This is as the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal struck out several paragraphs of the petition he relied upon to push for Tinubu’s removal.

2. The Labour Party, LP, has rejected the Presidential Election Petition Court’s judgement which upheld the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Reacting, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, in a statement shortly after the judgment, said that justice was not served.

3. President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians of his renewed and energized focus on delivering his vision of a unified, peaceful and prosperous nation.

This follows the judgment by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) in Abuja.

4. Former Nigeria president, Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his satisfaction with the ruling of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which affirmed the victory of the All Progressives Congress candidate (APC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the February 25 election.

Buhari, in a statement signed by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Wednesday, Buhari said the Tribunal has “written history”.

5. The aggrieved presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abubakar Atiku and that of the Labour Party, Peter Obi have announced their decision to challenge the Presidential Election Tribunal’s judgments at the Supreme Court.

They made their decisions public on Wednesday shortly after the Tribunal pronounced their petitions dismissed.

6. Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo has reacted to the defeat suffered by the presidential candidates of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi and that of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday.

Having failed at the Tribunal, both Obi and Atiku, through their representatives, have announced that they are heading to the Supreme Court.

7. The National Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, has nullified the election of Hon Amobi Ogah of the Labour Party, LP, and declared the present Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejiocha as the winner of the Isiukwuato/ Umunneochi federal constituency polls.

The tribunal ruled that the emergence and victory of Ogah did not comply with the Electoral Act.

8. A socio-political activist, Reno Omokri has vowed that he will never be alive and watch Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, become the President of Nigeria.

Omokri said even if it takes him spending everything he has, he will do it to make sure that Obi does not win a presidential election in Nigeria.

9. A renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Giro Argungu is dead.

The National Secretary, Jama’atu Izalatil Bidi’a wa Iqamatus Sunnah, (JIBWIS), Kabir Muhammad Haruna confirmed this is in a post via his verified Facebook page on Wednesday.

10. Nollywood actor Tony Umez has debunked the rumour that he is dead.

On his Instagram page, Umez said the death rumours circulating on social media have caused him, his family, and loved ones distress and promised to sue the merchants of fake news.
