Nigerian Newspapers: Front pages of today’s top newspapers in Nigeria

Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Monday 7th November 2022.

The Guardian: As global leaders commence discussions on climate change-related issues at this year’s Conference of the Parties (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, African leaders and stakeholders are championing a cause for the continuous exploration of fossil fuels to enable countries like Nigeria to finance development projects. Unlike COP26, where global leaders were mostly unanimous in their decision on carbon emission goals, the fallout from the conflict in Ukraine has tilted the precarious balance of the energy ‘trilemma’ — sustainability, affordability and security, towards the latter.

The PUNCH: Security and the economy took centre stage on Sunday as the presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Musa Kwankwaso and Kola Abiola of Peoples Redemption Party squared up at the Arise tv Presidential Town Hall Series on Security and Economy, in Abuja.

The Nation: There is disquiet in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over threats by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to back out of the Atiku Presidential Campaign. Mohammed was said to be angry over alleged intelligence that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is not keen on his second-term ticket.

This Day: Yesterday, at a first in the series of townhall meetings, organised by Arise News Channel, in Abuja, four of the frontline presidential candidates in the 2023 general election gave a prevue of their plans for the country if elected president respectively.

Daily Trust: In the face of a persistent rise in the prices of goods and services occasioned by galloping inflation in Nigeria, many civil servants earning around the N30,000 minimum wage are taking up menial jobs to meet their basic needs. A number of workers, who fall into this category, now ration basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing to square up to the prevailing harsh economic situation in the country.
