1. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says the growing spate of insecurity in Nigeria would be curtailed by State Police, not community policing.

Obasanjo made the suggestion when the leadership of the National Association of Ex-local Government Chairmen in Nigeria visited him in Abeokuta.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with some ministers and heads of security agencies at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting was presided by President Muhammadu Buhari and is a sequel to the recommendations by the Council of State over the security challenge in the country.

3. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted the general election in 2023 will hold as planned, despite the insecurity in the country.

Chairman of the electoral body, Mahmood Yakubu, stated this at a public presentation in Abuja on Thursday.

4. The House of Representatives on Thursday accused the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipreye Sylva and the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari of sabotaging refineries investigation.

Chairman of the House adhoc committee investigating rehabilitation of the refineries, Ganiyu Johnson, accused Kyari and the minister of frustrating efforts by the parliament to unravel why Nigeria’s refineries are not working despite billions of dollars spent on their rehabilitation.

5. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday told Nigerians assisting terrorists that they were only destroying their communities.

He also said no responsive government can ignore the role of religious and traditional rulers in tackling insecurity.

6. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, said any government that cannot protect the lives and property of its citizens does not deserve to be in power.

Wike, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated this while in the state to canvass support of both delegates and party’s stalwarts.

7. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State has suspended Olu Agunloye, the National Chairman.

Agunloye, a one-time Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, is accused of anti-party activities and disregard for the party’s constitution.

8. Amotekun operatives have rescued four girls from a suspected female human trafficker, who was allegedly transporting them to Ghana.

While being transported from Abuja to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the four girls and the 29-year-old suspected trafficker were intercepted by the Amotekun operatives between Kogi and Ondo States boundary.

9. The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), on Thursday, said it’s ready to mediate between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to end the ongoing strike.

10. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has announced that Professor Joseph Opefeyitimi will face disciplinary actions.

The management strongly denied speculations that it was shielding the staff from punishment.
