Nigerian televangelist, Pastor Timothy Omotoso, has been rearrested just weeks after being acquitted of multiple rape charges in South Africa.

The arrest was confirmed on Saturday morning by South African police and the Department of Home Affairs. Omotoso was reportedly taken into custody in East London.

Omotoso, 66, leads the Jesus Dominion International Church in South Africa. He was first arrested in 2017 and faced 32 charges, including rape, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking. Several young women — some of whom were still students at the time — testified that he selected them for sexual acts under the guise of spiritual guidance, reportedly asking for forgiveness after each encounter.

After spending nine years in custody awaiting trial, Omotoso was released last month following a court ruling that dismissed the charges. His rearrest has reignited public attention on the case, though details regarding the latest charges or reasons for his detention have yet to be made public.

Authorities have indicated that further information will be provided as investigations continue.
