Nigerian politicians are corrupt because citizens don’t hold them accountable – Mr Macaroni

Popular skit maker and Nollywood actor Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has stated that Nigerian politicians remain corrupt and unaccountable because they know citizens will not hold them responsible.

Mr Macaroni made this remark in response to a social media post urging Nigerians to unfollow celebrities who fail to speak on national issues.

In a post on his 𝕏 handle, he argued that it is unfair to pressure celebrities into activism, especially when the majority of citizens are silent on pressing matters. He noted that Nigerians often ignore incidents like police brutality in real-time but later criticize celebrities online for not speaking out.

He emphasized that true change would not depend on celebrities but on the collective will of the people.

“The reason why Nigerian politicians are so corrupt and reprehensible is because they know that the people would never hold them accountable,” he wrote.

He called for unity among Nigerians, regardless of status, tribe, or religion, urging citizens to demand accountability from their leaders.
