#NIJSWLIGHTUP18: Emmanuel Iyamu, Prudence Alfred Emerge Mr And Miss NIJ 2018

Emmanuel Iyamu and Prudence Alfred were on Friday night, May 11, crowned Mr and Miss Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, 2018.

The new Mr and Miss NIJ beat 10 other contestants to the crown in a contest that saw students showcase their dancing and communication skills as well as their dress sense and general knowledge mastery.

The crown which was fiercely contested for, had twelve (12) contestants, six (6) females and six (6) males respectively.
While Iyamu and Ms Alfred emerged as Mr and Miss NIJ 2018, Emmanuel Osere and Jessica Kings were crowned Mr and Miss Photogenic. Similarly, James Abraham and Damilola Shokoya emerged as Mr and Miss Amity.
The exquisite dress of the enthralling new queen, who is a first-year National Diploma student, was made by the creative designer, Zakariyah Azeezat. The shiny sequin, a well disk-shaped bead was used in creating the masterpiece.


“I feel very happy and grateful to everyone that supported me and most importantly I am really grateful to God for giving me the opportunity and the resources”, the new queen told Philips Sunday, head of media, NIJ students’ week 2018 shortly after the event.

Asked what she will do with her new position, Ms Alfred said: “I’m going to try and help my colleagues that will like to be in this position next year. I am going to add my own impact to NIJ in any way I can in terms of structures and any other thing I know I can support the school with”, she added.

Similarly, Mr NIJ also spoke with the NIJ media team after the event. Iyamu said: “Actually, I feel so glad. I feel happy about this. I never expected to be the winner; I just thought I was going to be probably Mr Photogenic or Mr Amity. I tried my best. I believe in being outstanding in anything one does so I think that really helped me.


Asked what he will do with his new position for the school and for the students, Iyamu said: “I will try to be a good role model. I will try to represent the school in so many ways and I will put in my best so people will see me like a mirror of this school. I am going to be a good representative of this school.

Meanwhile, all the twelve (12) contestants were given the certificate of participation by the Students’ Representative Council, organizers of the NIJ students’ week 2018.


The beauty contest was the climax of the Students’ Week that saw various students from National Diploma to Postgraduate Diploma levels showcase their oratory and communication skills as well as creativity in various areas.
There were also seminars and interactive sessions, as well as sporting activities and the “NIJ Got Talent” show.
The NIJ Students’ Week will end later today, Saturday, May 12 with a dinner party and awards given to students who deserve them.
