NiMet predicts 3-day sunshine, haze, thunderstorms across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted sunshine and haziness across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In a weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted moderate dust haze for Wednesday in the northern region, with localized visibility of 1,000 meters or less.

The North Central region will experience slight dust haze throughout the forecast period. Meanwhile, the southern region will see sunny skies with hazy conditions, early morning mist, and some patches of clouds.

Thunderstorms with light rains are expected over parts of Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states during the afternoon and evening.

For Thursday, NiMet anticipates moderate dust haze in the northern region with localized visibility of 1,000 meters or less. The North Central region will experience moderate dust haze, while the southern region will continue with sunny skies and hazy conditions.

On Friday, dust haze is expected to persist in the northern and North Central regions, while the southern region will enjoy sunny skies with scattered clouds.

NiMet has urged the public to take precautions due to the suspended dust particles. Individuals with respiratory conditions, such as asthma, are particularly advised to be mindful of the weather. Strong winds may precede thunderstorms in areas where rain is expected.

The agency also advised the public to stay updated with weather reports from NiMet and follow safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities. Airline operators are encouraged to consult airport-specific weather reports for planning purposes.

For more information, residents are encouraged to visit NiMet’s official website at www.nimet.gov.ng.
