In a boat mishap in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State last week, nine lifeless bodies have been retrieved, with one person still missing.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, November 16, claimed the lives of approximately ten individuals, mainly traders.
Alhaji Salihu Garba, the Head of Relief and Rehabilitation at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed to NAN on Sunday that the bodies of nine victims have been recovered so far.
The victims were transporting goods from Zongoru Community of Bassa Ward to Gijiwa, en route to the Friday market in Kuta, the headquarters of Shiroro LGA, when the boat tragedy unfolded.
Reports indicate that at least 34 people were on board, resulting in 10 fatalities and the rescue of around 22 individuals by local divers.
Alhaji Salihu Garba provided the names of the deceased, including Farida Muntari, Sharhabila Sagir, Bubakar Sadiq, Na’ima Ibrahim, Amina, Safaratu Ibrahim, Sadiq Ibrahim, and Rafiya Yakubu.
He mentioned that the agency has yet to identify two of the deceased individuals, and all the victims were from Zangoro.
He further said that there were 24 male and female adults and 10 male and female children in the boat when it capsized.
