No NIN, no JAMB – Buhari govt tells admission seekers

Nigerian Government has said any admission seekers without the compulsory National Identification Number will not be registered for University Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

This order was given by the Education Ministe,r Malam Adam Adamu on 21st January 2020 in Abuja.

Adamu has also ordered the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to work with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for implementation and acceptance of those that comply with the order.

JAMB has attempted the introduction of this policy two years ago but failed because of the fewer number of people that have the national identity card as of then.

Adamu stated clearly on Thursday that the use of the National Identity Number (NIN) for JAMB registration by candidates is now a government policy and it must be followed.

Malam Adamu said JAMB is working closely with the National Identity Management Commission, to ensure the sustainability of this policy and eliminate multiple registrations,” he said.

The Minister said candidates would have to use their National Identity Cards all the way to universities and other tertiary institutions and even beyond.

The minister added that the government has built, equipped and standardised over 650 JAMB examination centres while planning to build additional 800 centres in 2021 and 1,000 in 2022 and 1,200 in 2023.

In regards to the February 9th deadline for the network subscribers to link their Subscribers Identification Module (SIM) cards to their National Identity Number (NIN), some Nigerians are yet to take actions.
