No safety guarantee for unauthorized visitors to Benue, IDP camps – Gov Alia

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has cautioned that the safety of individuals or groups visiting the state without his prior knowledge or official clearance cannot be guaranteed.
The warning was issued on Monday in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, titled “Notice Regarding Unscheduled Visit to Benue State.”
Governor Alia emphasized that any person or organization intending to visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps must first obtain written approval from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA).
“The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, wishes to inform the public that he is not expecting any official visitors to the state today,” the statement read. “He is currently engaged in high-level meetings with key stakeholders to address pressing issues affecting the state.”
He further warned against unsanctioned visits that may lead to political gatherings without appropriate authorization, urging the public and security agencies to remain vigilant and uphold public order.
“For anyone planning to visit Benue without the Governor’s knowledge, such action is strongly discouraged, as the state cannot ensure their safety under those circumstances,” the statement added.
The Governor called on security agencies and the public to take note of the directive and cooperate in preserving peace and security throughout the state.
