Northern Nigeria: Rep sounds alarm on Insecurity in education

Representative Sani Jaji, a member of the APC from Zamfara, has voiced serious apprehensions regarding the safety of schoolchildren in certain areas of Northern Nigeria. He cited the relentless kidnappings and activities of bandits as major causes for concern.

Jaji, who represents the Kaura-Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, expressed his concerns during a press conference in Abuja. He highlighted the recent student abductions at the Federal University Gusau and another incident in Katsina.

He noted that the criminal activities of bandits had instilled fear in many residents, adversely affecting the education system in Northern Nigeria. He criticized the limited progress made through discussions, motions, and calls for security agencies to take action.

Jaji emphasized that both federal and state governments must unite and genuinely address the issue to effectively combat insecurity. He stressed that insecurity remains a major concern in the North, despite unique security challenges faced by each state in Nigeria.

Jaji also stressed the need for nationwide awareness about the security challenges in Zamfara State and the broader North-West region, emphasizing that security matters should not be politicized. He pointed out that disputes between the Zamfara State government and the Federal government regarding dialogue with bandits had worsened the situation.

He raised questions about the involvement of military personnel during purported community-led dialogues with bandits. Jaji called for a comprehensive approach to decisively address the insecurity crisis, citing the recent kidnapping of Federal University Gusau students as a clear example of the need for such an approach.

He concluded by emphasizing that insecurity in the North-West should not be subject to political maneuvering, as the lives and properties of the people should be of paramount importance.
