Notorious Kano thug, Abba Burakita, 40 followers surrender to police

Abba Burakita, a notorious thug in Kano, has voluntarily surrendered himself to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Usaini Gumel. Accompanied by his 40 followers and their weapons, Burakita handed himself over at the Bompai headquarters of Kano State Police Command.

Abba Burakita had been one of the two notorious thugs declared wanted by CP Gumel, who had placed a N500,000 reward on their capture. After being pursued by the police, Burakita fled Kano. However, he later contacted his parents to express his desire to abandon thuggery but feared potential consequences from the police if he emerged from hiding.

The parents of Abba approached CP Gumel, who assured them that he would facilitate Abba’s amnesty by the state government if he genuinely renounced thuggery.

In a statement released by the Command’s spokesman, Superintendent of Police, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of CP Gumel, it was revealed that Abba surrendered himself to the police headquarters in a submissive manner, accompanied by 40 of his followers. They pledged repentance and a commitment to change for the better.

The statement further noted that other identified thugs are also renouncing thuggery, and the surrender of Abba Burakita and his 40 followers signifies a positive shift towards peace and development in Kano State.

Currently, Abba Burakita and the repentant thugs are under the custody of Kano State Police Command for security profiling.

In addition, CP Gumel presided over the decoration of 105 newly promoted police officers in the Command, urging them to continue their commitment and dedication to their duties and serve their country diligently.

The promotions included two Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) being decorated with the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and two Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) being promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). Thirteen Superintendents of Police (SPs) were decorated with the new rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSPs), and 88 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) were promoted to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).

CP Gumel emphasized that promotion comes with added responsibilities, and he encouraged the promoted officers to maintain their commitment and dedication to the service of their country.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries and family members of the newly promoted officers.
