NPC Bill: The journey so far!

A journey of a thousand miles they say begins with one step. The journey which started so many years ago, Eighteen (18) years precisely has yielded a very fruitful result.

Today being the 24th of November 2016, the victory of the Corps was achieved as the Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps was passed into law by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Similarly, the Bill which has Forty Two (42) sections was earlier passed by the House of Representatives in June this year and after the Public Hearings, separately conducted by Committee on Interior of the Chamber.Officers and men of the Corps across the Federation and FCT could not hide their joy as they reigned prayers and blessings on the National Commandant for fighting a just cause for the Nigerian youths by taking them out of the streets through the provision of Employment for them.

In his prompt reaction to the passage of the Bill, the National Commandant of Nigerian Peace Corps, Amb. (Dr) Dickson A.O Akoh FCiTr, FCPA said the Corps shall not deviate from the original ideals and underlying philosophy for which it was established by its Founding Fathers, adding that the focus of the Corps shall be maintained after the take-over by the Federal Government. He further stated that the passage of the Bill could be considered as one of the greatest achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration.

The National Commandant also thanked the Senate President; Distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki , Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara, Principal Officers and the entire members of the National Assembly for ensuring that the all important Bill got an accelerated hearing and eventual passage. He also thanked all the organizations that we are affiliated with.

Adding that the passage of the Bill is a clear vindication for us for all the struggles and hard times the Nigerian Peace Corps has gone through till its present stead. According to him, this development has opened a new chapter for the organization and has also given opportunity for the growing unemployed youths to be gainfully employed.

He further added that, we are confident that the President and C-in-C of the Armed Forces will grant a speedy Assent to the Bill.

The Paramount Ruler and Chairman of FCT Traditional Council, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Adamu Baba Yunusa (Ona of Abaji), paid a prompt visit to congratulate the National Commandant and all officers of the Corps at the Headquarters in Abuja.
