Angry fans believed to be supporters of Niger Tornadoes aborted yesterday’s NPFL week 30 match between the ‘Ikon Allah’ boys and Lobi Stars at the Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna.
An eyewitness told Daily Trust that the first half of the game ended 0-0 but while the match officials and teams were returning to their dressing rooms, the hooligans attacked the referees leaving them with grievous injuries.
In the process, five players and two coaches of Lobi Stars were also physically assaulted with dangerous weapons leaving some in the pool of their own blood.
Lobi Stars defender Endurance Ebedebiri was worse off as he had blood gushing from his forehead as a result of a deep cut.
According to our informant, the assaulted match officials remained in the dressing room for about 35 minutes before returning to the pitch but couldn’t continue with the match due to injuries inflicted on them.
It will be recalled that Niger Tornadoes started their campaign in the 2021/2022 NPFL season in Ilorin but were later banished to Abuja after fans trouble.
They later adopted the Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna as their new home after the punishment was lifted.
