The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has apprehended a 22-year-old man, Idris Ibrahim Kayode, for allegedly vandalizing armoured cables at the University of Ilorin.
According to the command’s spokesman, Ayoola Michael Shola, the suspect, a private security guard assigned to the university, was caught red-handed tampering with cables used to power streetlights within the campus.
Local vigilantes apprehended Ibrahim at around 1:33 a.m. on Wednesday and immediately handed him over to the NSCDC for further investigation.
In a statement, the Kwara State NSCDC Commandant, Dr. Umar Muhammed, confirmed the arrest and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. He added that the suspect would face charges in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
Dr. Muhammed also urged residents of the state to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and working together to combat criminal elements.
