The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended six individuals for allegedly vandalizing PHCN/TCN cables at Apir, opposite the NNPC Depot.

The arrests resulted from a joint operation between NSCDC personnel and local youths in the Apir community.

Those arrested include Shiaondo David Iorshenge, identified as the prime suspect, along with Terungwa Asombo, Nomyar Bemdoo, Tyoakura Apino Christopher, Terhemba Iortuhwa Victor, and Musa Abdullahi.

The operation follows stern warnings by the Benue State Commandant of NSCDC, Bitrus, to criminal elements planning to exploit the Yuletide season for illegal activities targeting critical national infrastructure.

“In a proactive measure to ensure public safety and safeguard government facilities, I deployed 1,780 personnel across all 23 Local Government Areas of the state during the festive period,” Commandant Bitrus said.

She praised officers for their dedication and urged host communities to actively monitor and protect assets that directly benefit them.

“Let this serve as a clear warning to anyone seeking to compromise national security: Benue State will not be a safe haven for criminal activities. Protection of critical national assets is non-negotiable,” she added.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution in court.
