The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives has denied involvement in the tragic shooting of two children at a secondary school in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

Ms Comfort Okomanyi, spokesperson for the NSCDC’s FCT command, in a statement clarified that the students in question were alive and currently recuperating at a medical facility in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Olusola Odumosu, reportedly visited the injured pupils on Thursday, as confirmed by Okomanyi.

The incident was initially reported as an accidental shooting that occurred during a confrontation between suspected cult groups at Gwarinpa Junior Secondary School.

Contrary to the media reports, Okomanyi said the NSCDC Commandant-General, Mr Ahmed Audi, has promptly constituted an inquiry team to thoroughly investigate the situation.

Audi stressed the NSCDC’s commitment to implementing an internal disciplinary system to hold any personnel accountable if found at fault in the unfortunate incident.

In a official statement, Audi expressed regret over the incident and extended apologies to the parents and guardians of the injured students.

He assured that the NSCDC would cover the medical expenses incurred during the course of their treatment.
