On Thursday, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) apprehended seven individuals in Ilorin for their involvement in violent and unlawful activities during a protest by okada and tricycle riders over fuel price hikes.

The suspects are accused of attacking Olusegun Taiwo, a motorcyclist on her way to work, forcibly taking her bag, phone, and other valuables.

According to NSCDC spokesperson Ayoola Michael Shola, the incident occurred at the Sango-Kulende area of Ilorin. Taiwo reported the crime to the NSCDC on September 5, 2024.

Shola explained that the suspects, identified as part of a larger group of hoodlums, took advantage of the protest to commit theft and create public unrest. The group has been linked to ongoing criminal activities in Ilorin.

NSCDC Commandant Dr. Umar Mohammed reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining order and stated that the suspects will be prosecuted according to the law.
