Nsukka Catholic Bishop vs Fr Obayi: Mbaka spits fire

The ongoing dispute between the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Rt Rev Godfrey Onah, and Rev Fr Paul Obayi, also known as Fr Okunerere, has stirred various reactions.

Fr Obayi is the spiritual director of the Okunerere Adoration Ministry in Nsukka, Enugu State.

Fr Obayi, known for a similar prayer ministry to that of Fr Mbaka, alleged that the church authority in the diocese was oppressing him.

He claimed that despite his dedication to the church, he faced oppression and expressed his intention to leave the Catholic Church.

Fr Obayi alleged that some priests, purportedly acting on the Bishop’s orders, broke the entrance gate to the Adoration Ministry.

This situation has sparked controversy on social media, with varying perspectives on the matter.

Fr Mbaka, known for his outspoken nature, issued a warning to those oppressing Fr Obayi, cautioning them about the consequences he referred to as ‘sin against the Holy Spirit’.

He urged for Fr Obayi to be protected from what he described as attacks and forces of darkness.

Fr Mbaka expressed concerns about the treatment of priests by church leaders, highlighting the challenges they face and the need for support.

He encouraged the people of Nsukka to stand up for Fr Obayi and emphasized the importance of his work in winning souls for God.

Fr Mbaka urged the Catholic Church to protect priests like Fr Obayi and discouraged any actions that could force priests to leave the priesthood.

He emphasized the need for proper correction when required but stressed the importance of supporting priests dedicated to the work of God.

Fr Mbaka alluded to broader challenges faced by the Catholic Church in retaining members and called for unity and support for priests.

He referenced his past conflicts with church leadership and reiterated the need to protect priests and their ministries.

Fr Mbaka highlighted the potential consequences of actions against priests, urging a stop to the mistreatment of men of God.

He urged vigilance and prayers for priests, emphasizing the role of soul-winners like Fr Obayi.
