NYSC: DG advises corps members to respect host cultures

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed, has cautioned corps members to honor and respect the customs and traditions of their host communities during their service year. He emphasized the need to avoid actions that may lead to conflicts among the corps members throughout their service period.

General Ahmed conveyed this advice while addressing corps members during his visit to the Adamawa State Orientation Camp in Damare, Girei Local Government Area of the State. He also visited their colleagues at the Taraba State Orientation Camp in Simbre.

During his interactions with the corps members, the Director-General stressed the importance of acclimating themselves to their new environments, learning and understanding the local culture and traditions, and embracing new values. He urged them to prioritize personal security and refrain from engaging in risky adventures.

General Ahmed also cautioned against improper dressing in NYSC uniforms and unauthorized journeys, reminding them that such actions may attract sanctions as stipulated in the NYSC Byelaws.

Moreover, he advised the corps members to exercise responsible usage of social media, emphasizing its role in promoting national unity, self-development, and meaningful activities. He urged them to steer clear of drugs and illegal gatherings while adhering to the NYSC dress code both in camp and outside.

During his visit, the Director General witnessed the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme exhibition in both camps and encouraged the corps members to leverage these opportunities to become job creators.

The NYSC coordinators in Adamawa and Taraba states, Mr. Jingi Dennis and Mr. Tony Nzoka, respectively, shared positive reports about the corps members’ enthusiasm and willingness to contribute to the development of their host communities.
